Conception and contraception services
Conception and contraception services should be accessible and acceptable to patients who need them and should provide a skilled, confidential and non-judgemental service.
One of the Government's key targets for sexual health is to reduce the under-18 conception rate by 50% by 2010. To achieve this, contraceptive services need to be targeted at young people. Contraceptive advice and treatment can be legally provided to people under 16 years of age without parental consent if they are considered to be competent according to the Fraser Guidelines. Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) is a cost-effective way of preventing unintended pregnancies.
