| In 2001, the Government developed a national strategy for sexual health and HIV that aims to: |
| - |
reduce the transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) |
| - |
reduce the prevalence of undiagnosed HIV and STIs |
| - |
reduce unintended pregnancy rates |
| - |
improve health and social care for people living with HIV |
| - |
reduce the stigma associated with HIV and STIs. |
 |
| An important component of the strategy is public sexual health education targeted at patients most at risk of STIs or unintended pregnancies. |
