TOPIC: SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS
Prevention and treatment
Effective prevention and treatment of sexual health conditions is very important in order to avoid wide-spread outbreaks.
The most effective method of prevention is to practice safer sex, and most importantly, to always wear a condom.
Once an individual is infected, prompt effective treatment is essential. This not only reduces the suffering and complications that may be experienced by the infected individual, but also reduces the likelihood of onward infection. There are many different facilities available that offer confidential sexual health services, ranging from GP surgeries to specialised genitourinary medicine clinics.
Sexual health conditions pose very different issues from other diseases and as such, outbreaks require specific rules and protocols. To ensure effective handling in the event of an outbreak, all personnel should be aware of their roles and responsibilities.
